Shafts breaking when boiler heaters are used

When using either solar or nuclear power to heat boiler heaters individual shafts on steam engines tend to break due to the instantaneous and uncontrolled temperature output of boiler heaters causing individual steam engines to switch direction and break shafts. This is a showstopper for me as I don't want to use something unreliable that fails nearly constantly.
