General

What is AIFap?

AIFap is a platform that indexes and recommends porn. You sign up for an account, then rate porn which your like or dislike. Over time we learn your preferences and use this to recommend you porn that we think you'll enjoy. The platform is heavily inspired by BetterFap, the original machine-learning porn platform which shutdown late 2018.

All of the porn on AIFap is sourced from NSFW subreddits on reddit.com. Your ratings not only help us to make recommendations for you, but also build up your porn library in 'My Stuff', where you can review everything you've enjoyed previously.

What browsers/devices do you support?

Desktop running the latest Firefox, Google Chrome, or Brave.

Mobile or tablet with the latest version of Android/iOS, running the latest versions of Chrome, Firefox, or Brave.

AIFap should work in Safari and Microsoft Edge as well, but note that these two browsers are way behind in terms of web standards and still refuse to work with a lot of modern sites (especially Safari). We'll do our best to support these (please report any issues you encounter), but for the best experience we recommend you upgrade to something better.

We can't support Internet Explorer. IE11 hasn't received an update in over 5 years, while other browsers update monthly - it's time to switch.

As we're very privacy-minded we would recommend Brave (or Firefox with a decent content-blocker add-on).

How does it work at a technical level?

We use a combination of machine learning and recommendation techniques. Essentially it's quite similar to how Amazon's product recommendations or Spotify's song recommendations work. We'll do a proper technical write-up in the future for anyone who's interested in how it works behind the scenes at some point in the future.

If you use the site often and would be interested in contributing more in a moderation sense in the future, please get in touch with us. At some point we'll be looking for dedicated moderators to help maintain the site and keep things running smoothly.

Where does AIFap get it's content from?

AIFap pulls new posts regularly from a list of NSFW subreddits. You can view the full list on the site or here on the wiki.

Privacy

What will you do with my data?

We'll use it to find porn you like, and to get better at finding porn you like. That's it.

We intentionally don't ask for an email address when you register. We're not interested in building a profile to 'share' with advertisers, or selling you products, or convincing you to sign up to some newsletter you'll never read. We just want to show you porn you'll enjoy.

We collect some basic analytics which we use to monitor errors on the site and ensure we're building something people enjoy using. This includes things like the order you view pages in, whether you're on desktop or mobile and the features you're using the most. It's all anonymous and we only use this for the purpose of deciding what to add next and to identify problems with the site.

Who is building this?

As it says on the website, we're a group of individuals who are interested in machine learning and it's application to improving pornography. We'd like to remain anonymous. Historically porn has always pushed technology forwards, but ML is one area that porn has been slow to adopt enthusiastically despite it becoming more common across other industries.

How will you monetize this?

We don't expect AIFap to make any money - we're doing this as a hobby because we enjoy working with the technology and seeing how far we can push it. The current plan is to pay for the running costs via donations.

Can I donate?

You can now become a Patron in order to help support the development and maintenance of AIFap. You can pledge to donate any amount that you're comfortable with - even a couple of dollars a month is a huge help. It only takes a couple of minutes to set up if you've never used Patreon before. Patrons get a special discord role and private channel. Every cent we receive will go directly towards covering the site's running costs. We hope everyone in our community can appreciate the benefits of enabling the project to become self-sustaining, and the significance of helping us ensure it sticks around for the long-term.

Troubleshooting

AIFap is in-development beta software, so there will be bugs. There may also be aspects of the system which are confusing or partially incomplete. This troubleshooting article is a quick guide to some common problems people have run into, as well as how to get in contact with us to report problems.

Common issues

My Recommended/Experiment feed is empty

This is usually because we don't have enough ratings to begin understanding your preferences. To properly learn what types of content you enjoy, our system needs you to rate a good variety of posts. The easiest way to resolve this is usually to browse through the New or Popular feed for a few minutes and rate any posts you enjoy.

If your feeds are still empty after you press the grey refresh/generate button, and you think you've made enough ratings, please get in touch with us on discord for support.

Please note: Ratings on imported posts can't be used by the recommendation system at this time (see below)

I can't see my imported posts

Make sure the import is complete (it should display the number of posts imported), and that you have the 'Unknown gender' and 'Real-life artstyle' filters turned on.

'Likes' and 'Favorites' in BF are 'Likes' and 'Loves' in AIFap. Both will show up in the 'Liked/Loved' feed, while only 'Favorites' imports will also show up in the 'Loved' feed.

If you've just signed up and made an import without rating a normal post, you may need to rate at least one post from New or Popular before you'll be able to see anything in My Stuff.

My imported posts don't seem to affect my recommendations?

When you import from BF, we create private posts linked to your account. Because of the format BF provided the exports in, these posts don't have any metadata - they're just a link to the video or image. Due to this, the system doesn't have any information about the post which it could use to learn your preferences.

We intend to deduplicate private posts in the future and replace them with the original posts when we're able to find them (#87). Doing this would allow us to use them for recommendations and let you find the original source.

If you've found a new bug or want to suggest a new feature that isn't on our board, you can submit a new issue. Please include enough detail that we can work out what you're asking for or how to reproduce the issue.
