[PROCUREMENT] - PTFE gasket
Procuring the gaskets
The container lid is sealed by using gaskets made of PTFE.
The manufacturer wanted us to place an order of too many gaskets on the requested thickness, so we shall outsource the manufacturing ourselves.
Actions:
- Consider the amount needed for EQM & FM and then calculate the appropriate sheet dimensions with some clearances added for machinability.
- Communicate with material providers to procure a PTFE sheet. The material is PTFE with Barium Sulfate and the appropriate thickness is 1.6 mm (Will the gasket values be okay with any PTFE with Barium Sulfate or will we have to procure based on more info? This is not a gasket, this is simply a sheet at this point).
- Communicate with a machinery that can cut the material in the shape shown in the .dwg file above and manufacture the gaskets. Usually for this type of material, waterjet cutting should be the most suitable option.
- If the gaskets need a certain finishing for the container touching surfaces, then provide this information here, since this will be needed for the mechanical drawings of the payload container.
A discussion on the timeline of this needs to be made as well. Ideally we should make calls on machineries at the same time as we do for the container, not earlier to make sure no design changes need to be made.
