    NEW

    • Colors reduced to 3 shades: As part of the rebrand update, the main colors have been reduced to 3 shades with exception of gray (7) and pine (1). We found out we only used the primary colors 500 and the lightest or darkest shade, and very rarely used the other shades. This makes a lot of sense since the jump from 500 to 100 or 900 provides excellent contrast ratio.
    • Buttons style changed: The buttons are now rounded. We also improved some of the colors to enhance contrast ratios.
    • Tooltip and smart tooltip: We’ve introduced a new component, the tooltip, which comes with smart functionality so that you only need to tell the element the max width or characters count, and the tooltip will appear when necessary (plus, the text will trim).
* 2 fonts are better than 1: We’ve introduced Work Sans for titles as part of the rebrand.
    • md- class replaced for eos- class: Since EOS icons no longer requires Material Design icons (EOS icons page) and the recommended class is now eos-, we replaced the old class and aligned it 1-to-1 with EOS icons.
    • Same layout, new colors: The colors of the layout have been changed accordingly to fit with the new SUSE brand. More information about the rebrand changes at How to rebrand your product.
  • v3.0.0 protected
    Release v3.0.0

    NEW

    • Critical update Bootstrap 4: The design system is now based on Bootstrap 4. This gives SUSE UIs better support given that Bootstrap 3 is no longer releasing security updates.
    • User account dropdown: The UI for how to organize and display the user dropdown is ready and available in the demo layout https://suse.eosdesignsystem.com/examples/demo-layout.html or ready for download from npm i eos-ds

    IMPROVEMENTS

    • Documentation pages: For developers using EOS components from npm or developers implementing the components by themselves following design specifications.
    • Critical update The main text color is now $eos-bc-gray-1000: Darker color and higher contrast to improve readability of text and visibility of icons.

    • Layout guides, design specs, and demo page: the main layout is now defined for SUSE products to follow and implement using the different guidelines provided for products using Bootstrap or using a different or no framework at all.
    • Typography page: a guideline that defines the font face used in SUSE products, titles, and others. We will extend this guide during the next months adding more resources for how to use bold, italic, etc.
    • More guidelines for icons: we have extended the guidelines including the most commonly used icons in SUSE applications and how to use them consistently. We have also included a new guide to help products use arrows in a consistent manner.
    • Alerts: a new component added and defined in 3 different use cases: global alerts, section alerts, and inline alert.
    • Patterns: this guideline is the foundation for many components and modules to behave in a consistent way by providing solutions to common user flows.
    • Links: a new guide to explain how to implement links according to different scenarios.
    • Gradients: a resource only to be used by designers for marketing purposes.
    • Resources for designers in SVG and Adobe XD: all elements and components are now delivered in SVG or Adobe XD, so according to your operating system you can choose what file to use in order to design your mockups.

    IMPROVEMENTS

    • Since the beginning we have been working using the Atomic design methodology. We have added some features to help everyone understand the release cycles by linking them more directly to the methodology.
    • The main and sub-menus have been tested and improved based on the feedback received. This helped us deliver the guidelines for the layout and have a more performant menu that covers limitless scenarios.
    • Assets/resources easier to find: all elements and components now have a dropdown with all design, code, and instructions assets to follow for implementation or design purpose.
    • Several UX and UI improvements.
