Full-screen RDP session disappears when local system fades to screensaver

When a full screen session is active and the screensaver "fade" starts, the session disappear, showing the local desktop. The session is still active and connected, but there seems to be no way to access it. By connecting again, you get a message from the old session that someone else connected to the server forcing the current connection to be disconnected. The behavior can also be replicated (kind of) by alt-tabbing out of an existing full-screen session and connecting to the same server.
Ideally, the session should be available to alt-tab as long as it is connected. Also, Remmina should check upon connection (for RDP at least), if an existing session to the server exists and offer to switch to this instead of starting a new session.

- Desktop environment (GNOME, Unity, KDE, ..): GNOME (desktop version 3.26.2) on Xorg (1.19.5)
- Connecting to (OS and version): Windows 8.1
- Connecting via (RDP, VNC, ...): RDP
- gnome-screensaver version 3.6.1
