Please Wait Issue
I have a remote user who has a recurring issue while using Remmina (1.4.20) to connect to his (remote) Windows 10 workstation. Instead of Remmina allowing him to reach his desktop, he is greeted with this screen indefinitely:
Ultimately, each time this happens, waiting doesn't work: I typically have to reboot his workstation by logging into another workstation (as administrator) and issuing this command from a windows command prompt (to reboot his workstation):
@start /b cmd /c shutdown -r -f -t 1 -m \\ComputerNameHere
Today, I discovered a workaround that doesn't require my assistance each time this happens:
# Install xfreerdp:
sudo apt-get install freerdp2-x11
# Remotely connect without supplying password upfront:
xfreerdp /multimon /sec:tls /d:DomainHere /u:UsernameHere /v:192.168.0.2:3389
This displays the windows login screen, where he can reboot the computer himself via the power menu showcased in the bottom-right corner. After this, he is able to login using Remmina.
Although this works, we prefer a Remmina solution where the user doesn't have to encounter the command prompt. So, I wondered if I could create another Remmina profile that achieved the exact same thing (showing the Windows 10 Login Screen without Logging in).
However, if you save a profile, without a password, upon attempting connection, Remmina prompts you for credentials instead of allowing your to see the Windows 10 prompt for those same credentials. Therefore, you never encounter the opportunity to reboot without logging in.
Additionally, I later confirmed that the "Please Wait" screen itself is due to a Remmina bug, because at these times when Remmina gets stuck at the "Please Wait" screen, we've discovered that xfreerdp logs in fine (without encountering that screen).
