Improve launcher appearance

Screenshot taken on Windows 10:

Someone on social media described the launcher as looking like the kind of thing that would give them malware. I think that's a stretch, but there's certainly something to be said that it's visually outdated and looks tacky.

Note: This is not about material design or flat design or whatever. The launcher just kind of looks like it's 15 years old. There are other ways to look more modern.

Issues I see here:

  • the scroll-paper-thing in the background is very tacky and should probably be removed, replaced, simplified, or replaced with a 3d render of something much less detailed/noisy. the core problem is that it actually looks like "paper"/"parchment" rather than just being a facsimile.
  • The gradients on the play button and content list picker are tacky and non-native-like.
  • The button icons at the top are of an out-of-vogue visual style.
  • It's unclear that the buttons/icons at the top function similarly to "tabs", because the Play icon is not always selected by default (sometimes the launcher boots up without it getting selected). Also, when selected, it selects with a background highlight like how text selection looks, instead of somehow looking depressed into the background or pulled out into the foreground. The highlight changes color when input focus moves away from it, and you can cause the highlight to disappear by clicking and dragging from it onto a different element.

Also, does the launcher start up in dark mode on systems that are configured to tell applications to do so if they're capable of it? This should be double checked.
