Keyboard navigation in containers is not intuitive
Since switching to 0.43 (now using nightly 9b8c5676, 23-Feb-2018) from 0.42, I've noticed that behavior with regard to containers has become wildly inconsistent:
- Some containers will give you the contents by just pressing Enter/Return (or whatever your activation key is) after opening it. In 0.42, all of them worked this way.
- Some containers now require you to click Take All, pick Dispose of Corpse (if applicable), or manually remove items from the container; if you hit Return/Enter, it will just close the container without taking anything.
- This is varying not just by container type but even container to container. E.g., you can take with Enter/Return from one kollop, yet it won't work with another kollop right next to it (maybe it's different kollop varieties?). Same goes for corpses, and plants. It doesn't seem to be entirely random; smaller chests seem to more often be take-all-on-Enter, and larger ones to require manual action.
- However, it appears to consistently require manual action to harvest anything from a summon. This makes it nearly impossible to do so. Due to late builds of 0.42 disabling harvest-on-death and requiring harvest-on-end-of-death-animation instead (see #4046 (closed)), this leaves only a slight fraction of a second to access the corpse of the summoned creature, and you generally can't do it without spamming the activate key on the corpse. The odds of doing this without opening the corpse (if you're lucky) but immediately closing it again – and thus without actually getting anything – are close to zero. In 30 attempts back-to-back with Golden Saints summoned to the same corner, I was successful only a single time (though was able to get the corpse to open 6 times total).
Thus, OpenMW is presently making it approx. 5 times (80%) more difficult to access the corpses of summons than it is in the vanilla game.
Previously, I've considered it insanely frustrating that I can easily accidentally end up with my entire closet full of 100+ clothes dumped into my inventory by my finger twitching on the activate key. I would suggest that Enter/Return work as "Take All" any time there's less than some arbitrary number of different items in the container (15?). If there's more than that, have the key either do nothing and leave the container window open, or ask you if you really want to take X number of items. Maybe have this be a three-way preferences switch in "Advanced" (take all, leave open, ask), perhaps even with a user-selectable number.
I'm using macOS 10.13.3; no idea if this affects other platforms.
