PS3 & PS4 Controllers not working on Mac

I am running MacOS 10.12.2 and have experienced this issue with both OpenMW version 0.42.0 and nightly build 07092017. The game responds to neither my PS3 or PS4 controller whether plugged in to USB or operating via Bluetooth. They otherwise work fine with other applications.

Openmw.log states "Detected unusable controller Wireless Controller".

It seems likely that this may be related to https://bugs.openmw.org/issues/3964.
