Installation fails (spring 2023)
Comment from @mc086 in issue #57 (closed) (I made a new issue as this seems to be an installation issue)
We're trying to get PiVR working in our lab and we're encountering similar issues. We've tried changing out the hardware but it seems like a software issue. Are there other solutions we might try? Below are a few of the problems with pigpio we've encountered and how we've tried to fix them to no avail.
Past actions/Concerns ● After flashing new SD card with Raspbian OS, running into issues installing the PiVR software again → install is failing at “building wheel for opencv-python (pyproject.toml)” ○ Force quit after letting installation run for upwards of 30 minutes and it being stuck at this command for around 25 minutes ○ Force quit the install because it was not progressing → now PiVR icon is distorted and cannot open the application (closes after hitting execute) ● Had run into similar issues on previous machine, with install being very slow around open-cv install and then flashing a few errors but in these instances, the application fully downloaded and would flash on the screen with the following messages before closing ○ “Out of memory” ○ “Can’t initialize Pigpo” ○ “PiCameraError: Camera is not enabled try running sudo raspi-config and ensure the camera has been enabled” ● Checked OS on working system and system we are having issues with → running the same version (11 / bullseye) ○ Both working and non-working raspberry pis
Questions: ● Is there a different OS version that we should be using to allow Open-CV to fully download? Is there possibly another reason that Open-CV is not fully downloading? ● Are there any steps that we should be taking prior to installing the software that would help the installation process run better?
