Wi-Fi hotspot is stuck at 2.4 GHz frequency (w/ None or WPA2 security)
Expected Behavior
When the security mode is set to None or WPA2, it should be possible to freely set the Wi-Fi hotspot band to either 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz.
Current Behavior
When the security mode is set to None or WPA2, once the Wi-Fi hotspot has been succesfully activated using the 2.4 GHz band it will continue to use this band whatever the selected preferred band.
Steps to Reproduce
- Open "Settings".
- Go to "Network & internet" -> "Hotspot & tethering" -> "Wi-Fi hotspot" -> "Security".
- Select either "WPA2-Personal" or "None" security mode.
- Go back to "Wi-Fi hotspot".
- Go to "Speed & compatibility".
- Select 2.4 GHz as the preferred frequency.
- Go back to "Wi-Fi hotspot".
- Activate the Wi-Fi hotspot using the "Use Wi-Fi hotspot" toggle button.
- Connect to the Wi-Fi hotspot using another device and check that the network frequency is 2.4 GHz.
- Deactivate the Wi-Fi hotspot using the "Use Wi-Fi hotspot" toggle button.
- Go to "Speed & compatibility" again.
- Select 5 GHz as the preferred frequency.
- Reactivate the Wi-Fi hotspot using the "Use Wi-Fi hotspot" toggle button.
- Reconnect to the Wi-Fi hotspot using another device and check that the frequency is still 2.4 GHz.
Note: I did not find a clear and reproducible way to enforce again the usage of the 5 GHz frequency but I'm pretty sure I managed to do so during my tests.
