Adaptive brightness hanging on wakeup

Expected Behavior

When adaptive brightness is enabled and under any light level, the screen should turn on when I wake up the device (either with power button, DT2W, or fingerprint).

Current Behavior

When adaptive brightness is enabled and under intense light, the screen either has a delay before turning on, or turns on with serious visual artifacts.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Enable Adaptive Brightness in settings.
  2. Put device under bright light (outside sunlight is where I first noticed this issue, but I can reproduce with a phone flashlight).
  3. Wake device screen (power button, DT2W, fingerprint scan, etc.).
  4. Screen may or may not turn on and may or may not have visual artifacts. It seems to happen 20% of the time.
