Phone loses connectivity to cell network if Wifi is on for too long
Expected Behavior
Phone should be connected to cell network, regardless of WiFi connection.
Current Behavior
This bug was originally opened under v17.1, but this bug still persists in v18.1. I have reused the same logcats and radio file. I will attempt to recreate it to get new log files.
If the WiFi is on for too long, the phone will silently lose connectivity to the cell network. The cell signal strength icons will still report that there is a connection to the cell network. I will attempt to send a text/make a call, only to get a message saying that there's no connection to the network. If I shut off Wifi, the cell signal icon will have an X over it, and I won't have any service. About 15 seconds later I will get cell reception back.
When the cell network connectivity is down, calls are not queued up, i.e. once I get cell reception back, I do not get a flood of missed call notifications. I will usually get queued up texts, but I've missed calls/texts and had no indication of having ever received or missed them after getting reception back.
I've checked the Developer Options, and "Mobile Data Always Active" is enabled.
I captured Logcats.txt and radio.txt when I noticed the issue. I successfully sent/received texts at 9:06 and 9:07 AM EST on 1/20, but encountered the issue of failing to send a text around 11:48 AM EST on 1/20, which prompted me to capture the log files. I'm not sure when the issue happened exactly, but I can say that it definitely arose sometime between those two times.
On line 2485 of radio.txt, I'm seeing this: 01-20 11:47:34.114 2340 2340 D RILJ : [0600]> SEND_SMS [SUB0]
01-20 11:47:34.130 2340 2440 D RILJ : [0600]< SEND_SMS error 10 [SUB0]
01-20 11:47:34.131 2340 2440 D RilRequest: [0600]< SEND_SMS error: com.android.internal.telephony.CommandException: SMS_FAIL_RETRY ret={ mMessageRef = 31, mErrorCode = -1, mAckPdu = }
01-20 11:47:35.714 2340 2440 D RILJ : [UNSL]< UNSOL_RESPONSE_NETWORK_STATE_CHANGED [SUB0]
Possible Solution
As far as I can tell, the only way to fix this problem (other than plugging the phone in) is to disable Wifi.
Steps to Reproduce
- This problem doesn't always take the same amount of time to reproduce, but the common thread to all of them is that Wifi is left on for a long time (1-2 hours or more).
