Display freezing and turning to static on fairphone after weekly updates

Expected Behavior

The phone should function normally, load the display correctly and in reasonable time. It shouldn't freeze.

Current Behavior

The phone after some usage will begin freezing and improperly load the display. It will suddenly turn all static and won't actually show the display, especially if I try to display the lock screen. Functions will freeze, such as loading a new web page or typing a message. The delay is very bad. It might take me 10 minutes to open my browser and search anything (normally takes 15 seconds or less). I've noticed it resumes decently back to normal if I take the battery out of my phone and put it back in. Normal reboots don't help. The static screen will appear when booting into recovery. A couple times, I've been on the recovery screen but unable to see the options because of the static cover. When it isn't loading well, it feels like the CPU is being throttled. My home screen background will suddenly change a lot (I'm not sure the terms, but maybe lose saturation or something like that). It is impossible for me to take a screen shot of the incorrect display, by the time the screen shot loads, it clears the screen of the static or any bad graphics. When it starts acting poorly, it generally goes down hill fast. At that point it becomes unusable.

I switched to lineage 17.1 using the first official build available for Fairphone. It worked flawlessly, no noticeable issues. Then I updated one of the weekly build. It seemed fine at first, but in the past week it has just become a brick. I updated to the recent weekly builds hoping it'd fix it, but no luck.

Is it safe to try downgrading to the initial build I installed (without losing data)? Maybe I could test to see if the issues persist on the older version and possibly narrow down the scope of when the bug was introduced. logcat.txt

Possible Solution

I'm using gapps (pico), I've noticed certain apps along with location being active, really triggers a cascading effect. I'm thinking maybe there is something wrong with the calls to the play store library?

My other guess is it has something to do with the display. I think I read that current version for fairphone has non-functioning night light? Maybe I took some sequence of steps that made it worse?

Steps to Reproduce

I've found it hard to go from fresh reboot (pull battery out) directly to the issue, but apps like

  • Signal
  • Firefox
  • regular mainstream play store apps

generally lead to bad outcomes along with about 30 minutes of usage. Turning on location makes it worse. If it goes bad, if I leave it alone for a few hours, it is still the same. Only the battery reboot brings it back to a somewhat workable level.

The logcat.txt I attached is taken while my lock screen is covered with the static. My phone was acting horribly in recent hours before I took the logcat. When it acts up again I will follow up on this issue with another logcat

/device FP3 /version lineage-17.1 /date 2021-01-25 /kernel /baseband /mods Google Apps (pico), F-Droid

I have read the directions.
