Abandoned/Nonworking Apps

I was able to easily and quickly find all of the apps with archived and deleted repos not marked with NoSourceSince or a note thanks to unarchived-app-got-archived-repo-checker made by @yzqzss. We should go through these and remove those which are no longer working, while those which are working should be labeled as NoSourceSince and/or have a note added to their description.

Apps with archived repos:

• com.afollestad.photoaffix - working fine

• com.dxr.compass - working

• com.freshfieldreds.muffed - this one already has a note, but it no longer works and should be removed.

• com.thebrokenrail.combustible does not have such a note and isn't even archived, but also fails to connect to lemmy.

• com.litlifesoftware.historyofme - works

• com.raival.fileexplorer - works

• com.roysolberg.android.developertools - works

• app.schildpad.schildpad - works

• app.suhasdissa.karaoke - default server doesn't work, but some others do

• app.suhasdissa.memerize - works

• dev.sasikanth.pinnit - works

• eu.bauerj.paperless_app - can't test as I don't use paperless – reported as still working fine (2024-12-04)

• eu.thedarken.wldonate - I tested one of the locks and it works

• moe.craftplacer.kaiteki - works

• org.ovirt.mobile.movirt - removed

• pl.blach.sunmachine - can't test as I don't have smart lights

• ss.proximityservice - works

• green_green_avk.anothertermshellplugin_android10essentials

• com.ziadoua.zcalc - works

• wtf.plexmanager – reported working fine, see replies to https://floss.social/@IzzyOnDroid/113594956450453646

  Apps with deleted repos:

• com.sanmer.geomag - seems to work

• itsy_bitsy_tweak - magisk module

  Other Nonworking Apps - I apologize in advance as I don't know your policy on apps that don't work only on newer Android versions or apps that partially work

• xyz.fmac.gmcmap - can't connect to online service, completely nonworking

• app.skydroid - for the default configuration and any added collections, simply returns "OS Error: No address associated with hostname, errorno = 7" and doesn't load anything

• com.sbeve.jada - can't connect to online service, completely nonworking

• de.nrw.it.giz.ehrensache.bayern.android - Significantly broken: the map doesn't load. Listings work.

• com.github.funkyg.funkytunes -crashes on launch on Android 14

• org.schabi.newpipe.preunified - doesn't load youtube, crashes on launch after changing source to media.ccc.de

• v.blade - Spotify and Deezer don't work, should function as a local music player on older Android versions. It doesn't on Android 14 because it doesn't request any storage permissions or open a file picker.

• Similary, vinetos.hellomusic fails to download from youtube with "Download Failed, Code : 1," but is able to play local music. Its repo is archived. => removed

• org.moxxy.moxxyv2 - tried logging in with conversations.im, didn't work. Not sure about this one as it's had commits semi-recently and is described as experimental. => kept, development active.

• io.atticusc.atmosweather - refuses to run, says I haven't granted battery optimizations when I have

• de.tu_darmstadt.timberdoodle - crash on launch on Android 14

• fr.odrevet.youtube_dl_kivy.youtube_dl_kivy - errors out when attempting to download anything – tested: even crashes when trying to download; reported here on 2025-04-16, let's give the devs a chance

• me.varunon9.remotecontrolpc - closes connection whenever you attempt to use it to remotely do anything on your pc => removed

• de.apkgrabber - some sources don't work, some do – removed (repo archived 2024-11-06); com.apkupdater (which it was forked from) is still actively maintained

• org.laurentsebag.wifitimer - timer functionality doesn't work on Android 14, I'm assuming due to new alarm scheduling permission – removed (last release 2016, obviously no longer maintained, Tracking via Google Analytics)

• com.lunchareas.echomp can't find music on Android 14

• org.freemp.droid - never finishes loading

• org.meowcat.edxposed.manager - not compatible with Android 14 and no longer developed, downloading modules doesn't work

• moe.studio.pixelbar - doesn't seem to work clicking on bar doesn't bring up search => removed

• com.island.filemanagerutils - adding root manager to documentsui on Android 14 doesn't work

• com.brains404.localizer - map doesn't load, but weather does

• ir.lydia.runner - doesn't work on Android 14 – https://github.com/Rminsh/Runner/issues/2 (project sunset/archived now, app only supports Android 10 and below.

• tr.edu.iyte.caffeine - crash on launch on Android 14.

• ir.MrMG.Memorito - instant crash on Android 14 with "Your app encountered a fatal error and cannot continue."

• com.looker.howlmusic - not working on Android 14

• de.shadow578.yetanothervideoplayer - on Android 14, "An unexpected error occurred and the app had to be closed. Sorry for the inconvenience."

• org.akanework.symphonica - crashes when trying to play music on Android 14

• ma.wanam.youtubeadaway - stopped working

• es.dmoral.tappic - doesn't work on Android 14, description should be changed to say that it is no longer maintained – removed.

• fi.bitrite.android.ws - service has shut down

• org.tigase.messenger.phone.pro - no longer developed, archived in main repo and appears vulnerable to CVE-2023-5217

• com.tomclaw.mandarin - ICQ has been shut down

• sh.unlimi.x2vx - vxtwitter seems dead => well, vxtwitter seems actively maintained and just had updates 2 weeks ago, so we keep this 🤷

• com.prateekmedia.pstube - playing videos and downloads don't work

• com.github.adamantcheese.chan - 4chan doesn't work because of new captcha which is unsupported – removed.

• com.khmelenko.lab.varis - 404s

• I think that com.achep.headsup and codes.simen.l50notifications fall into the not useful category, as android versions less than 5.0 add up to at most 0.37% of the market share according to StatCounter (see the .csv) ==> both are rather small apps and thus will be kept a little longer (unless they're reported broken on Android ≤ 5 where they're intended for)
