Subject: WordPress 5.4 is imminent! Are your plugins ready?
Hello, ID4me tooluser!
WordPress 5.4 is scheduled to be released on March 31st. Are your plugins ready?
After testing your plugins and ensuring compatibility, it only takes a few moments to change the readme "Tested up to:" value to 5.4. This information provides peace of mind to users and encourages them to update to the latest version.
Here are the current "Tested up to:" values for each of your plugins:
* https://wordpress.org/plugins/id4me/ (tested up to 5.3.2)
For each plugin that is compatible, you don't need to release a new version — just change the stable version's readme value.
Looking to get more familiar with 5.4? Read this roundup post on the core development blog to learn more about the varous changes coming to core with this major release:
https://make.wordpress.org/core/2020/03/03/wordpress-5-4-field-guide/
There are three areas that specific focus should be given as plugin-related changes coming in 5.4:
1.) If your plugins add custom fields to menu items, you'll want to update your code to use the new 'wp_nav_menu_item_custom_fields hook': https://make.wordpress.org/core/2020/02/25/wordpress-5-4-introduces-new-hooks-to-add-custom-fields-to-menu-items/.
2.) If you're using keyboard shortcuts in the block editor you will want to register them when you load the screen/plugin for the first time, by calling the 'registerShortcut' action: https://make.wordpress.org/core/2020/02/19/block-editor-keyboard-shortcuts-in-wordpress-5-4/.
3.) Note the more flexible way to manage manage favicon requests: https://make.wordpress.org/core/2020/02/19/enhancements-to-favicon-handling-in-wordpress-5-4/.
There are over 120 enhancements and 200 bug fixes, including a number of changes to the editor (Gutenberg), so please test your block-related plugins as early as possible.
As a reminder, update the "Tested up to" field in your readme to 5.4 once you've made sure everything is up to date and works. It's also a good time to take the opportunity to clean your readme and refresh yourself with the plugin guidelines: https://developer.wordpress.org/plugins/wordpress-org/detailed-plugin-guidelines/.
Thank you for all you do for the WordPress community, and we hope you enjoy 5.4 as much as we do.
