Excessive status bar throbber activity
summary
When CardBook is running, the throbber in Thunderbird's status bar becomes animated quite often, for no apparent reason, and for long periods of time (or maybe forever). Normally this throbber becomes animated only when Thunderbird is doing something important such as checking or sending mail. However, with CardBook the animation happens even when there are no active tasks at all (according to the Thunderbird Activity Manager and the CardBook log). The constant animation is very annoying and distracting. When the CardBook addon is disabled, the problem goes away.
I'm a long-term CardBook user but the problem only started happening fairly recently (i.e., in the past few weeks).

steps to reproduce the bug
- Launch Thunderbird and make sure the CardBook addon is enabled.
- Sit back and do nothing for a few minutes. If this doesn't trigger the bug, then the behaviour can sometimes be triggered by simply viewing a few e-mail messages or newsgroup articles.
current behavior
- The status bar throbber will start to animate and stay in this state for several minutes, or might even get stuck in this state until the user engages in some other activity such as viewing a different e-mail message. But even then it will eventually return to its animated state.
expected behavior
(what you should see instead)
- The status bar throbber should animate only when Thunderbird or CardBook is actually doing something important.
