Allow file app to write in `Android/data` dir
Hello,
First, thank you for maintaining this great Android OS!
I recently installed the v4.2.3 version and I have two issues with GadgetBridge, installed from F-Droid:
- I cannot allow notifications access and I don't have a workaround for that: see issue #1299 (closed).
- I cannot restore my previous backup from my phone but there is a workaround: see below.
To restore my backup, I need to write files in /storage/emulated/0/Android/data/nodomain.freeyourgadget.gadgetbridge/files
directory (a bit odd but that's the only way) but I cannot do that from my phone:
- If I use the pre-installed "Files" app, I can read the content of
Android/data
and its subdirectories, I can even create directories there but I cannot copy files there: it uses another fragment where we cannot accessAndroid/data
- If I use another application -- e.g. Amaze -- I installed from F-Droid, I get a prompt to let it access
Android/data
directory but I cannot press "Use this folder": To protect your privacy, choose another folder. - I also tried to re-install Amaze from Aurora Store but I have the same behaviour.
- Same with Termux but I guess that's normal if they share the same API. I didn't find any pre-installed Terminal, not even in the dev options.
A workaround is to plug the phone to a computer, set the USB mode to File transfer and from the computer, it is allowed to write files in Android/data
folder.
Is it the intended behaviour?
