QMK Compatibility

QMK is an open-source keyboard firmware used by hundreds of custom mechanical keyboards, many of which have RGB features. The repo is here: https://github.com/qmk/qmk_firmware

On the one hand, this would probably require making a contribution to the QMK repo; as far as I'm aware, QMK does not currently allow the user to control the keyboard RGB from anything but the keyboard itself. On the other hand, QMK is open-source and so no reverse-engineering would be required.

If you need a QMK keyboard to get this done, let me know and I'll see if I can solder some LEDs onto something I have lying around.
