Upgrading to 1.0rc2-2.1 causes SMU: I'm not done with your previous command

After upgrading from 1.0rc1-2.1 to 1.0rc2-2.1 on a CachyOS install openrgb is causing full display lock ups with dmesg saying...

amdgpu: Failed to export SMU metrics table

...every instance when the desktop becomes responsive, for a split second then freezes up again.
