Flickering when not playing music

I understand that in order to use the audio responsive features of the program I need to be using the speakers on my MSI laptop GS73VR but I often listen to music with headphones and just enjoy having the much smoother rainbow animation this program offers over SSE but there's an annoying flicker to it. It'll stop and play smoothly for 5 or so minutes before returning to the flicker. What settings do I need to mess with to avoid this?
