• Unidays - Students/teachers verification present. API docs are not available publicly. I only see few official public packages for different programming languages that provides you access to API. But no docs to make it in ruby through REST. By taking a look at official JS package I see that they require pre-generated list of coupons that will be verified/redeemed through their API. Contact form to start conversation as the partner is here.

    • Student beans - only students verification. No public API information. Once I signed up I also hadn’t seen any information how to set up API integration instead of embedded form.

    • Passport (Chegg) - no info at all. Tried to google multiple times. But it seems like Chegg doesn’t provide such service.

    • Edlink - does not provide dedicated identity verification services like one we need. It's rather a connect point between SIS/LMS and SSO systems.

    • Jumio - pretty good API documentation. Although service doesn’t verify a status of educational document but rather if person is really who they are presented to be (regular identity check). Probably we can speak with their support to learn if they can handle our use-case.

    • ID.me - should work for our needs (teachers/students identity verification). Such possibility mentioned on their website. API is pretty simple but it works as OAuth to their portal. There is no API that transfers user data to it. Just a pre-configured redirect. Also their resources don’t work for Ukraine without VPN what is annoying for me :( but I can handle it.

  • @knockfog-ext @nick_vh Have either of you looked at Proxi.id? https://www.proxi.id/solutions/student-and-faculty-verification/

Running our use cases/requirements into Claude with these examples it is highly suggesting Proxi.id:

Proxi.id is the ideal choice for GitLab's Education Program because it supports both student and faculty verification globally through a single, well-documented API with seamless integration. Unlike SheerID, Proxi.id offers instant verification without requiring document uploads, leading to higher conversion rates and eliminating the verification friction that frustrates users. Their privacy-first approach, responsive customer support, and proven track record with technical teams make them the reliable, global alternative GitLab needs.

  • @daniel-murphy, I haven't but seems great. I'll leave it to the team to decide on an alternative.
