Gitlab unavailable due to load (Severity 2 (High))

Problem: GitLab became intermittently unavailable for git operations due to servers hitting concurrency queue limits and resource exhaustion.

Impact: Customers experienced errors and were unable to perform git operations due to concurrency queue limits on GitLab servers. At least three customer support tickets were opened, mostly for private projects but also affecting a key public project. Error rates spiked between 14:35 and 15:45 UTC, then decreased significantly.

Causes: Unknown

Response strategy: We investigated traffic and error patterns, confirmed no relation to recent rollouts, and adjusted error monitoring. The incident was made public for broader collaboration. Customer reports have stopped, error rates have remained low for over an hour, and a follow-up investigation with the Gitaly team has been opened.
